Aesthetic changes[]

I used colors from the game to change the look of the wikiu. Let me know if you like it or not.

Vsouzas (talk) 20:56, June 7, 2014 (UTC)

I liked a lot the new visual. I think it's really cool and clean. Good job.

Jpventorim (talk) 01:55, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

Beautiful work, man! Really loving it. :)

Cilantroll (talk) 06:41, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

Can we add "places" to the top level "wiki content" tab; currently there are heros, monsters and bosses. Also, how do you add stuff to the top level tabs?

Macst34 (talk) 08:55, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Quests (levels) vs Quests (missions)[]

The last update brought Quests to the game. You have to build a new house and Quests (missions) are given to you.

Inside each location there is a Select a Quest. On your inventory you have a "Total Quests Completed" counter. On Aqueous Lake of Water you unlock levels by completing a certain number of Quests. All of these refers to the levels.

It may cause confusion, so I suggest we do:

  • Stop using Category:Quests for information and left it empty for now;
  • Create a page Quests (Levels), which will have information currently on the category page;
  • Rename the page Objectives to Quests or Quests (Missions).

NOTE: This update is not out on iOS yet.

NOTE2: I'm playing on iOS, some information may have changed.

Breakthrough with dice set unlocks[]

Monsters are not as unique as thought--there is very strong evidence that dice sets are templated and applied across to different monsters. What obscures this fact some is that the level these dice unlock seem to often differ between monsters that unlock the same dice in the same order. For example, Sodium Cloud and Retinohypothalam is strongly on track to have exactly the same set of dice.

The realization came about in a Touch Arcade discussion thread for the game here; read starting from post #366, and onto the following page of responses.

This is pretty significant--instead of needing to train each unique monster up, only a few need to be, once its dice set is determined to be unique or not yet known. In future with the templates 'solved,' all other monsters will only need to be trained up to their first few dice, and then matched to the completed template.

I think it'd warrant a new "Dice Sets" page or something somewhere on the front page that helps match these templates to the monsters that have them--I've started one, feel free to do whatever with it. Thoughts?

Cilantroll (talk) 08:33, May 26, 2014 (UTC)

Looks like you are right! But if this is true the game will lose so much gameplay value. It will be let's train the fastest learner/strong core die monster.

Vsouzas (talk) 12:57, May 26, 2014 (UTC)

Just a thought--as more and more monsters get filled in, revealing new templates or showing they belong to one already in place, I think it would be useful to have a "template" parameter to add that would link to that page's section. Possibly near/beside/under the DiceUnlocks parameter? What do ya think?

Cilantroll (talk) 07:11, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

I can change the template to include a Template option and add it under Dice Unlocks. It is simple to add a link to Dice Sets page. A little more complicated to automatic link to each template.

Vsouzas (talk) 13:02, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

I edited the DiceChart template and added a optional DiceSet which will link to Dice Sets. I tested on Retinohypothalam.

Vsouzas (talk) 18:47, June 5, 2014 (UTC)

Dice naming[]

Dice naming is not standandized. Each user uses a different style.

I suggest:

  • Remove "Attack" from dice names but Attack dice. E.g. Fire, not Fire Attack
  • Multiplier dices named Type X?. E.g. Fire X2, Attack X4

Vsouzas (talk) 18:38, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

I agree that dice naming should be standardized. The Dice-O-Pedia names the dice as "Double Fire Attack" and "Fire Attack Multiplier 1-3." It does get very wordy. The kinds of dice we need are:

  • Attack (???)
  • Elemental Attacks (Fire)
  • Multiplier regular (Fire x 2)
  • Multiplier Range (Fire x 1-2)
  • Greater than dice (Fire > 1)

If we ignore the Dice-o-pedia, will it be confusing to players at all? What will we call Neutral attack dice? Just Attack? Or Neutral since technically that's what it is in the game?

Tygress (talk) 21:20, May 21, 2014 (UTC)

Dice page[]

I feel that the dice page accessible from the main page should be merged with the dice category page. Currently the category page does not have any content in it and the dice page seems like it should be moved there.

EpicXTroll (talk) 05:13, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

@ EpicXTroll

Agreed. So do we just copy the content and paste it into the category page, or is there some fancy merge function I don't know about? I'm new to this wikia thing.

Tygress (talk) 14:58, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

It's really necessary that we have one page to each dice? There's not much to say about each one. I think the dice page has all information needed in one location.

Vsouzas (talk) 16:13, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Dice naming[]

@Tygress

I think we should use long names.

Short names in game are not expressive. You need to look at the dice picture to figure out the type. Other name conventions can confuse players.

I've seen Earth dice everywhere in the wiki and I used it, but just found out the correct name is Forest.

Vsouzas (talk) 12:49, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

@ Vsouzas

I like the long names (i.e. Whatever the Dice-o-pedia calls them, since that's the "official" name), too.

And yes - it is Forest. I've been correcting that wherever I see it - people have been calling it Wood, too. It's in Monster type, dice type, shards, anywhere the element is listed.

Tygress (talk) 14:55, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

I just find out that I can answer by editing topic. No need to create a new one. Fail...

How are we naming greater than dices? We can't put a '>' because it doesn't translate to a wiki page. The dice template just shows something like [[Attack > 1]].

Vsouzas (talk) 16:08, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

@Vsouzas

LOL at the edit :)

The greater than symbol works sometimes. It doesn't work in a template. I'm going to contact the wikia people and find out if anyone knows how to make it work - I bet there is a special character combination like in HTML to make it work.

SEE: http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:679204

People have answered why it doesn't work.

Tygress (talk) 17:04, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

It doesn't work because the template is auto linking to the dice's page and pages can't have titles with greater than or less than signs. We COULD do two things at once... eliminate the dice pages per the previous recommendation, and stop the template from linking to pages and just let them be text. That would fix the issue and take care of the other talking point.

Tygress (talk) 18:32, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

I think we should just remove the linking from template AND remove the pointless dice pages.

I will add a Delete template on the dice pages and edit the Template:DiceChart. If anybody complains, we can revert the pages.

Vsouzas (talk) 19:28, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

OK - so for continuity sake, I think that Dice should be named thusly:

  • Attack
  • Attack > 1 (note the spacing)
  • Double Attack (etc)
  • Attack Multiplier 1-3

This is how the Dice-o-pedia names the nice. No shorthand. Dice should not be named Attack x 2 (except on that one giant chart for monster catching). I recommend using   before and after the > in the source if we notice a lot of breakage for all dice names. This will make it look nicer and cause the readability to be maintained. Any objections?

Tygress (talk) 17:03, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

I agree, but I think people don't look at this page, so they keep writing Attack x 2 or Attack Multiplier (X2). I've been revising pages and changing names. I will start to use &NBSP too.

Maybe we should create a page explaining this and put a warning in the main page.

Vsouzas (talk) 17:42, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

Templates[]

Boss Template

I think we need a Boss Template, because the Character template and the Monster template are both not quite right. I don't think I have the time to create one today, but I think one needs to be written and then the Boss pages need to be updated to reflect the new template. (Also - how did you get this to be separate? I couldn't get mine separate and it's under dice naming which it shouldn't be...)

Tygress (talk) 17:14, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

You should have used the Add Topic button :D

I agree with you. Templates are good! Will it be a template page or a template box?

The monster pages are composed of two templates: a monster info box and the dice table. Would not be better if we just create a monster page template that handles all information? I don't see any special change for each monster. This is a simple game, that is pretty much all information we need. Maybe a photo gallery, but it can be done outside the template (or added later).

Sorry for the bad english.

Vsouzas (talk) 19:22, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Your English is excellent, Vsouzas. Do you know how to make one template that would handle the dice and the info box and still be editable easily enough for the Monsters? I imagine we'd have to go back and port all the info for all the monsters that are already input... I do think a Photo Gallery for each monster is a good idea and I've been adding it for the ones that I have the alternate color screenshots for.

Boss Template: It should have the Boss name, HP, image, Dice, and location. There also needs to be a gallery because there are super versions even though they don't change name and can't be captured, they come in other colors (see: Boc Boc Bird for an example).

Tygress (talk) 19:36, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Now that you mention it, I always edit source pages, never use visual editor. I will play with it later. Maybe its not viable to do what I proposed.

Your boss template seems fine to me. Go ahead!

Vsouzas (talk) 19:51, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

I started a Boss Template. It is heavily based on Template:Character right now, but I intent to improve it. I tested it on Orbis Ultra.

Vsouzas (talk) 17:32, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

I saw it - it was fantastic. I edited it to remove the things that it didn't need. I love that you made it link to the stage without needing to write "Boss Stage" - so cool. It seems to have all the stuff I asked for. I updated the Boc Boc Bird to use the template.

Tygress (talk) 18:26, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

Can you add (because I couldn't figure out how to) a section at the bottom of the Boss template which is "Same Model As" so if people want to catch a monster that looks like the boss, they can find the monster that looks like the boss with the link to the monster? I tried to do it but it didn't work right.

Tygress (talk) 18:58, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

I added a section, just use SimilarMonsters attribute. It will show up to 4 monster. I don't believe there will be that much similar monsters.

Vsouzas (talk) 19:17, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

Super/Mega/Hyper[]

Has anyone figured out what the deal is with these? I have seen the same monster called Super in three colors with three different HP levels, so I know the HP isn't actually the same between Supers (or Hypers, or Megas). Is it just the number of capture dice they have? We need to make a page on what they are, but we need to figure out what they are, first. See the Puddle of Mystery gallery for 3 different HP and colors of Super Puddle of Mysteries.

(PS - I hit new topic but I don't think it made a new topic. Fail.)

Tygress (talk) 19:38, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

The Add topic seems fine to me. Anyway, I created a topic for you!

Vsouzas (talk) 19:54, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

I read the Tiny Dice Dungeon FAQ. It is said that they have nothing special right now.

It does not seem to have any logic. I've seen super and mega appear together, but the super version had more HP than the mega one.

Vsouzas (talk) 12:56, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

I see the FAQ. They do have different dice counts. I'm trying to screen cap any super/etc monsters during the dice rolls that I manage to attempt to catch and I'm trying to catch any that I see to do dice comparisons. I've been playing the same level over and over to do the research, but it's slow going. I think that the HP values will have to be removed from the template, though, since they are definitely random.

Tygress (talk) 16:52, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

@Tygress--Isn't HP an important parameter to have? The basic monsters always show up with that HP--you know they're super/mega/hyper/ultra when their HP varies from this (though there is no pattern in how they vary).

Also--regardless of whether monsters are super/mega/hyper/ultra, their capture value/number of dice is ALWAYS doubled.

Cilantroll (talk) 08:11, May 26, 2014 (UTC)

I don't know if I misunderstand, but I agree - HP is super important for regular monster but irrelevant for the super etc because we can't track it and it isn't constant. So putting that field in the info box gets crazy. It winds up looking like 320 (variable) or 240/320/438/233 and the information isn't useful. The dice is useful.

I just looked through all my screen grabs and see what you mean by doubled. A monster has a dice count, the super, mega, hyper, and ultra count are just double of the regular count. That's it. /facepalm!

Tygress (talk) 07:26, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

I realize that my HP comment makes no clarifying sense when rereading it the next day. We need to keep the plain HP field. We need to remove the other HP fields because they have no useful value. Any HP number that is not the original value means it is either super, mega, hyper, or ultra. The colors are random. There is no difference at this time between the kinds, I believe they even have the same dice as their regular counterparts.

Tygress (talk) 07:32, May 30, 2014 (UTC)

Monster Groups[]

There is a group option on monster template. Does anyone know why?

Vsouzas (talk) 14:26, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

No. I thought it was perhaps to make the monsters into groups like "animals," "humanoid," etc, but since the game doesn't do that, it seems odd to decide to do that ourselves. I would support removing it from the templates.

Tygress (talk) 16:46, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

I took it out of the template.

Tygress (talk) 17:46, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

I know why it was there and it needs to go back in. Once you get to the Dark Tower, you open up this sticker section (I will add an image link here for you to see in a few minutes) which has every monster divided into a group. The title in the info box should be group, but it shouldn't auto show. It should be an "if." Can you add it back in?

Tygress (talk) 17:51, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

It's true. I will put it back.

Vsouzas (talk) 18:04, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

Hey, some guy at the Touch Arcade forum has collected ALL the stickers already, and put this up:

http://s14.postimg.org/sx45lfioh/Pics_Art_1401148636988.jpg

Have since asked if he could take more screens, but for now, that fills in a lot of information.

Cilantroll (talk) 00:21, May 27, 2014 (UTC)

Towns and Buildings[]

Do we want a building section? Right now I think most of the buildings don't do anything that you can't reach through the menus otherwise. There are a few buildings that have unique stuff (monster hunting, questing) so maybe it's worth making a section for the town.

Corence (talk) 03:12, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

Maybe a Buildings page, or a Home Town page. I don't think is necessary a dedicated page for each building. The monster hunter deserves a separated page. Where is this questing building? How do I unlock it?

Vsouzas (talk) 12:51, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

You can build it with the Architect. It's the building in the upper-right that you can build with building materials. It seems to (currently) be the only building you can make that actually does anything. It gives you 3 quests at a time, and completing them gives you money and XP.

Corence (talk) 18:48, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

I can't find it. Is it new content? I find out a new android version was released yesterday. I play it on iOS which has not been updated for a while.

I don't know if it is just a coincidence but since yesterday I can't play PvP anymore. The game just keep crashing, sometimes even before battle starts.

Vsouzas (talk) 20:04, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, you guys are speaking Greek to me. I have no Architect, or Quests. I look forward to them. Do you both play on iOS or Android? I'm on iOS.

Tygress (talk) 01:11, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

I play on iOS too. A new android version was released on May 23. I don't have an android device right now, but I may check it later today.

IF there is a new version it is likely to be stuck on apple's approval system which may take weeks to be released.

Vsouzas (talk) 13:11, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

Just played the android version. There is an architect house below the Items Hut house. So we will have to wait until the update is released on iOS. :(

Vsouzas (talk) 16:36, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

The iOS version and the Android version are actually released by the developer at the same time but Apple vets each app before releasing it so that's why we don't have it yet. It'll be out any day now, whenever they give it the clean bill of health.

Tygress (talk) 05:57, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

How to Edit the Monster Pages[]

We need to make a button / page that says, "Hey! Want to help edit a monster page? Here's how!" with instructions. Someone edited the Monster template and added Dice Unlocks to it, which is in the DiceChart, and as someone already said on this talk page, no one reads the talk page. If it could load on the Monster pages at the top (an image button with a link to the page - I can make an image for it), that would probably be helpful.

Also, I figured out what I was doing wrong with the Add New topic button. I wasn't putting a level 2 header at the top, so it wasn't making a new section. :)

Tygress (talk) 01:07, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

Tygress, can you create this "how to" page?

I'm thinking to put a temporary box on monster template linking the "how to" page.

I'm reading about templates. I'm thinking create a single single monster template merging the current template with the dice chart template. Do you think it will confuse people that are used to the current dual template pages?

Vsouzas (talk) 17:12, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

I'm probably inept, but I can't add the image I've uploaded of the monster Clams to its page. Whenever I try to, a textbox appears that says, "The page at tinydicedungeon.wikia.com says: (and then completely blank)." Hit Okay, and then nothing happens.

Never mind. It was quite unintuitive--was trying to use the "Add Photo" button when there is that empty placeholder. When into Edit mode instead, and pasted the image link into the Image field (in place of "Placeholder").

Cilantroll (talk) 20:28, May 28, 2014 (UTC)

I wanted to but unfortunately real life has gotten in the way. We may have to move across the country and that will involve selling the house we bought less than a year ago so I am in the process of painting all 2,800 square feet of it right now and fixing everything in it to make it sellable. I can't even upload the images I have for the wiki or the dice counts I kept track of. I'm really sorry. Kudos to Cilantroll on the dice chart patterns - what a find!

I will try to, though, while the paint is drying in between coats. I will also try to update the info box template with the changes from the super observant and smart Cilantroll in regards to dice counts for super etc monsters if no one has by the time I get a chance.

Tygress (talk) 05:55, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

@Tygress No sweat, and no need to apologize! Sounds like big life stuff is happening, so please take your time, there's no rush. Good luck with selling your home, and the move!

And you're very kind, but I can't take full credit for the templates! Touch Arcade members (and also occasional contributors to this wiki) frownface and aussietinask both had a huge hand in it. :)

Cilantroll (talk) 20:28, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Quick question from a new contributor:  Has anyone discussed adding the locations where the Monster Catcher could get you a non-EX monster to those monsters' pages?  For example, the page for Lwo lists location only as "Trolls Enclave", but I got my Lwo from sending the Monster Catcher to the Savannah (can also be caught in the Earthy Forest).  Would this information be useful to help newer players identify alternate sources for obtaining monsters?

D-Rodd (talk) 19:18, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Dice Plan Cost[]

Does anybody find different values than 100/200/300/.../1500?

Vsouzas (talk) 20:36, May 27, 2014 (UTC)

Nope...I was thinking the same thing! The pattern seems consistent,

Cilantroll (talk) 23:47, May 27, 2014 (UTC)

I agree, and was also thinking we should just standardize this in the templates unless it is proven false. Any thoughts on this?

OnEyedSnake (talk) 12:17, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

The downside is if we change the template we need to edit all monster pages. I think the shards are irrelevant too, because we link to the dice page which (should) have all shard costs.

I do suggest to create a new monster template which includes the monster and dice information. Today we have it spread across 2 templates: monster and dice chart.

I can create the template and change all the monsters, but I want it to be done once.

Vsouzas (talk) 13:08, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

Category pages[]

Hey, I'm just wondering if in the Category pages (such as the ones I've created for the specific elements of monsters, neutral, fire, water, and forest), why a gallery of stuff appears above the list. They're big square images or small quotes about certain monsters in that list. I dunno--I think it's not necessary and it'd be cleaner without. No idea how to do that, though. Thoughts? Thanks!

Cilantroll (talk) 04:01, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

You need to write __NOCATEGORYGALLERY__ and it will desappear.

Vsouzas (talk) 15:43, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, I had some time so I removed auto gallery from all Core categories.

Vsouzas (talk) 16:00, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you! I've gone ahead to apply this to the elemental category pages as well. This Wiki editing stuff is still super new to me!

Cilantroll (talk) 20:29, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Category:Monsters was migrated to its own page, but the 'Monster' category on a monster (bottom of their sheets along with 'Fire Element' or whatever) still links to Category:Monsters. Is there a way to quickly change where 'Monster' directs to?

Cilantroll (talk) 20:37, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

We can put a link to monsters page inside monsters category. I moved the content from category because I thought it was strange to have a custom list of monsters and in the end of the page another list of monster from the category.

Vsouzas (talk) 13:24, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

I did it as a redirect command on the Category:Monsters page. Will that do? When users click the category from now on, they are immediately deposited to the newer Monsters page instead. They can visit the Category page if they really wanted to by clicking on the 'redirected from' that appears at the top of the page.

Cilantroll (talk) 22:15, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

Boss HP[]

What determines boss hp?  I don't remember bosses having this much hp.  Now the bosses in the first two areas are in the 200-300 range, which is insane.  One of the bosses (townhall?) regularly heals for 90hp, and I can barely deal 50 with my hero.  I don't remember these bosses being nearly this hard when I first plowed through them.

4tran (talk) 11:44, May 30, 2014 (UTC)

The boss HP works in a similar way to super/mega/ultra/hyper monsters. The first time you meet a monster it has the base/default HP.

The monster's power scales with your party power so it should not be hard to defeat them.

Vsouzas (talk) 14:37, May 30, 2014 (UTC)

Patches/Updates?[]

Should we log the patches/updates?  This game seems to be updated semi regularly, and I have no idea what's changed each time.

I also see lots of comments from people who have lost their save after an update, and that's making me super paranoid (and yes, some are claiming to use the cloud save feature and still losing everything).  Anyone here have any thoughts about that?  I spent yesterday trying to make a duplicate of the save file, but was unable to do so...

4tran (talk) 10:26, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, but I don't know if it will be helpful at all. I play on iOS and the last update is 1.19.0 (May 7). Android is at least 4 versions ahead: 1.9.29 (May 19), 1.19.23 (May 23), 1.20.0 (May 29) and 1.20.3 (June 4).

Source http://www.apk4fun.com/history/9542/

Vsouzas (talk) 12:45, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks.  If that's the case, it would be redundant to have an update log on the wiki too.  Since not much was added in most recent update, I'll not risk losing my save file. 4tran (talk) 11:14, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

Animated Dice[]

Would you like me to update all the dice with the face animations, considering that they do actually use different faces/looks. Much like the attack die animation I posted a bit ago. (Here is the link Animated Attack Dice)

OnEyedSnake (talk) 12:12, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

It would be nice!

Can you make the image transparent?

Also, each dice has 24 positions and each elemental dice has 3 frames, so you could change the frame each 8 positions.

Vsouzas (talk) 12:55, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

The problem with fully transparent backgrounds is that they show a white border around them on a dark background (the website). You are able to see it in the link above in the first version of the attack die. I have looked into this extensively and the only way people say it is fixable is to put a background behind it. I can try to just outline the die with the background color and see if that works but without any background the white border shows up. I hope that all makes sense. If you have some other suggection let me know.

And yes that was the plan for the elemental dice. My only other question is, is the changing speed okay?

OnEyedSnake (talk) 20:38, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

The changing speed is good. I doubt anybody will ever count the changes.

I'll take a look here, but I'm pretty sure gifs support true transparency.

Vsouzas (talk) 13:19, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

I uploaded a new image version with full transparency support. Take a look: Animated Attack Dice
